Flowers, Flowers and More Flowers

After weeks of what seemed like incessant rain, we finally had a week where the sun shone. So everything went by the board and we simply got out. It seemed as though the flowers were fairing really badly. Hardly anything in the garden was flowering. It seems strange to say when people are badly in need of rain but, too much of it also takes it's toll. However, after a few sunny spells, at long last we got some colour! We took a trip put to Shropshire Lavender at the weekend and were treated to a demonstration of Lavender oil distilling.
I don't expect to have clear blue skies all the time, fluffy white clouds are wonderful after endless grey!
It was lovely to see the bee's out and about.....and it was fascinating to see how the process takes place.
On the drive there, the local council had planted several of the islands with wild flowers. I think they probably do it to keep down maintenance costs but, I have to say that it is one cutback that I rather like. The butterflies and bee's seem to like that too! With a little sunshine on them, they made for stunning display!
I have also been working on some vibrant projects of my own. One of these was a Swallowtail butterfly inspired by a photograph taken in Skiathos a couple of years ago....I actually managed to paint some of it outside too!
Sadly, the forecast is looking quite ominous again...but, at least we had a little respite!

Yes we did have a much better week, but the rain seems to have come back yet again - my flowers have taken a battering too - I'm away in Snowdonia walking next week so I've got my fingers crossed for half decent weather! Love your butterfly - have just given your gorgeous kingfisher in flight photo another go - still love that photo so much!

Hi Chrissy. I bet the scent from the Lavender was wonderful! All your photos are lovely, the wild flowers are really beautiful. I think some of the local authorities are beginning to see the light and take notice of conservationists, the more wild flowers the more insects :-)

Your butterfly picture is just gorgeous, I do wish I had your talent!

It was lovely here last week too but this week is back to rain :-(

the wild flowers are so much better for the bees and butterflies, gives them some extra space, and i think they actually look better wild like that instead of in rows :)

All lovely and bright we could do with a bit more of that sun. I love those traffic islands with flowers on. I keep thinking I must stop to take photos of them but never quite get round to it!

Chrissy, Such beautiful, colorful flowers !! I wish everyone would just get their "fair share " of rain and sun. Fifty percent of the USA is suffering from a terrible drought right now. There are years when a good part of the nation suffers from flooding too. I guess you "take what you get" and deal with it. Here's wishing you some bright, sunny weather. Mickie :)

I don't think I have ever seen a field of flowers looking so beautiful. I love how you have captured the blue sky that matches the blue in the cornflowers. Thank you so much for showing this, I didn't know nature could be so beautiful.

I wish I could lay down on that path in the lavender under that cerulean and white sky and just let the world pass me by for awhile!
