Spiritual Restoration

Rereading my last blog post of three weeks ago and I sound unusually negative. To be honest I hadn't recognised it in myself either. Looking back, I can understand why. Andy had been working incredible hours and I think the atmosphere pervading my workplace had crept into my psyche. We had seriously missed out on quality time together but I am glad to say that this was resolved by taking another break on our favourite Greek island. The weather was very kind to us for most of our visit and we spent lots of time in out favourite places, resting and soaking up Skiathos.

I am sure that people often wonder why we return to the same place so often but now the island holds a familiarity that is both comfortable and welcoming. Originally we missed the beaches, after a few visits we missed the wildlife diversity but nowadays we miss the people. Times are very difficult right now for Greek people, taxes are being increased, prices are going up steeply and they are trying hard not to pass them on to the tourist. I cannot help but admire their pride and philosophy. Once again I came away with an inner peace and some words of wisdom that will make me smile for months to come. We won't talk about the only addition to our Greek vocabulary though ;)

We spent quite few days on our special beaches, paddling around in streams, watching beautiful sunsets and eating out in our very favourite Greek tavernas.

We met up with friends old and new. We managed to see some local exhibitions of art and photography which also enabled us to put some faces to names of people that we had chatted to online but had not met. It was also great to meet some more wildlife enthusiasts and once again people were kind enough to share some of their knowledge with me.

Of course, as always, wildlife did mange to throw in some surprises too but, I shall save those for some subsequent posts to follow. For now, sadly we are back to work tomorrow but, I know that our Greek friends are about to wind down after a few months of crazy hours. So we wish all of them happy holidays.......especially those that went a long way to ensure ours was wonderful :D

Orange vs. BT Internet Issues

I notice once again this evening our Internet is playing up considerably. Last time I got very anxious and spent a lot of time on the phone to Orange to complain. It was very stressful. To make matters worse, several days after all the problems, BT kept phoning to offer us a good deal on broadband. Call me cynical but, I got the idea that they were strangling our service. Co-incidentally all of these problems used to arise just after the children left school at 4.30. Call me even more cynical but the kids are back to school tomorrow...and so it happens again.
However, this time, I have decided I am not going to get wound up....I am going to take an Internet break ~ stuff 'em and their machinations, I don't want to play ;)

So here is my Skywatch Friday image early.......

Just right now, I have several projects and plans. So, I shall let them fight it out over the next couple of weeks and hopefully catch up with you all soon...

Red Deer Oil Painting

This is my current work in progress using water soluble oil paint. I am really liking them, it is great to have a splodge in oils again, it seems like it has been ages.

I do seem to have a distinct lack of brushes but I don't want to buy any just yet because the NEC is coming up in November and I prefer to make a list. So for now I will just have to make do with what I have. As I keep building with oils, this one will keep me occupied for a little while yet...you will probably get to see the finished thing sometime in October!!
