I am sure that people often wonder why we return to the same place so often but now the island holds a familiarity that is both comfortable and welcoming. Originally we missed the beaches, after a few visits we missed the wildlife diversity but nowadays we miss the people. Times are very difficult right now for Greek people, taxes are being increased, prices are going up steeply and they are trying hard not to pass them on to the tourist. I cannot help but admire their pride and philosophy. Once again I came away with an inner peace and some words of wisdom that will make me smile for months to come. We won't talk about the only addition to our Greek vocabulary though ;)

We spent quite few days on our special beaches, paddling around in streams, watching beautiful sunsets and eating out in our very favourite Greek tavernas.

We met up with friends old and new. We managed to see some local exhibitions of art and photography which also enabled us to put some faces to names of people that we had chatted to online but had not met. It was also great to meet some more wildlife enthusiasts and once again people were kind enough to share some of their knowledge with me.
Of course, as always, wildlife did mange to throw in some surprises too but, I shall save those for some subsequent posts to follow. For now, sadly we are back to work tomorrow but, I know that our Greek friends are about to wind down after a few months of crazy hours. So we wish all of them happy holidays.......especially those that went a long way to ensure ours was wonderful :D

Hi Chrissy,
I've not been over to read for a while (trying to limit internet time - ha!) so I'm really glad to see you had a fantastic holiday. I've never been to Greece, and you are certainly selling it to me. Perhaps next summer! Everyone I know has said that the welcome and warmth of the people there is wonderful, and goodness knows they need our support right now. As well as the beauty and the nature I love it that you have made real links there. I'm glad you have somewhere so lovely to go.
I'm glad it worked its usual magic on you Chrissy.
We used to go to Plakias (Crete) in May and September every year (before it became too touristy) so know just what you mean.
Now we have our little house on Fuerteventura so we never go anywhere else - we have personal/familiar belongings there and very many friends - within a couple of hours of landing we have opened up the house and walked along the beach into town to catch up with everyone. We go back next Monday and I just can't wait!!
Hi Crissy!
Thank you for your visit and comment. It is good to be back for a bit at a time. I'm taking it slow and wanting to really get into a creating mood again. I have been out of the loop for so long, it just feels good to browse through the blogs I left behind months ago. I always loved your blog and art! Looking forward to more.
that second picture is gorgeous! i really like your pictures of Skiathos, make me want to visit every time you post some :)
Chrissy, Glad you came back from your lovely holiday refreshed and renewed. Everyone needs to get away now and then to keep sane. Your photos and comments could persuade anyone to take a trip to Skiathos-it looks and sounds like an extraordinary place to visit. It is definitely on my list of places to visit. I have to see the Parthenon too!! I look forward to more of your lovely photos. Take care. Mickie :)
Ah - the island looks lovely. A wonderful place to relax and unwind.
Hi Chrissy, thanx for stopping by my blog. It's been a long while since I have taken care of it, so it's nice to see old blog-friends. Wow...those sea pictures are amazing! The water looks like some of the glass in my studio. I am pretty sure my spirit would be seriously restored if I visited a place so beautiful!
Great to see you back. And I totally understand why you go back to the same place year after year. Heh, heh, heh. Coastlines and sea & sky horizons are something special.
