A Boxing Day Walk Through the Woods

Yesterday was a lovely day and after the slight excesses of Christmas Day, Boxing day is always good for a walk. It was surprisingly warm, although a little crisp but because it was an easterly and we walked mainly on the west of the hill, we were quite protected. It was good to see in some sheltered spots that a few buds are now back on a few of the trees, it is always nice to think that Spring is around the corner. I am not a winter person.

sunshine though trees
It was such a lovely walk that I thought I would share a few images. We walked to the top of the Hermitage and took this photograph looking out over the town of Bridgnorth.

As we were standing there in the relative warmth of the sun, we also heard the sound of the steam train. The Severn Valley Railway runs from Bridgnorth to Kidderminster, this shot was snapped just as it reached the bridge. I love the chug, chug sound that it makes as that old engine works.

severn valley train
The railway runs about 16 miles and mainly follows the route of the River Severn. Living in Bridnorth it is a familiar sound to us. However, the sound in the wood was mainly of birds singing. Although the next photograph is of a chaffinch that clearly was not impressed with our presence as he was chirping alarm sounds from the branches above.

As we walked, we coould also hear the unmistakable sound of a woodpecker echoing through the trees. Sadly although we stopped a while to catch a glimpse, he remained elusive.

The sky was an amazing colour and if it wasn't for the bareness of the trees, it could easily have been a bright summers day. It was lovely to take our time and just soak up the birdsong and kick leaves. Plenty of images were taken, I do tend to refer back for some of my artwork and the light was excellent.

tree hugger
I thought I would finally leave you with this one.I don't like it when people try to make money or attract votes by alarmist theories so global warming is something that I rarely discuss. However, Andy always says I am a tree hugger on the quiet and I do believe in protecting what we have, so here is the evidence, yep I do hug trees!

what a cool looking tree :) Nothing wrong with being a tree hugger, well as long as you watch out for poison ivy (don't have that here though), or poison oak. ;)

There are roses here that are still blooming here the weather is so mild.

Happy tree hugging! I am alarmist about these thing, just feel it's no good to go around being negative about things. Speak up when it'll do some good. Do your best. I always hope the art help, your beautiful fairy tree included.

Teen, thank you. I dont' think the weather is going to stay mild for long..the forecase is that it is going to go very cold the next few days!
June, nice to see you here, I have been enjoying your blogs, lots of inspiration to be found there and some lovely free images. I will definately check out next Wednesdays.
Jen, Thanks a lot, I read one of your posts about poison ivy I think, if not where did I read it? You and KK have both described it somewhere - not nice!
KK I think my problem is people trying to make money out of it! But, I do think you are right, art can sometimes have a big impact :)
Rose Works, thanks and actually thanks to Andy because he took most of these, LOL.

Hi Chrissy! Lovely photos, they're great! (I am so happy to be back...can't you tell by all the exclamation marks?)

I just love trains...grew up next to train tracks and never minded the noise. Your steam engine here is so romantic and that's a beautiful shot. I figured you for a tree-hugger and that's a good thing!

Hope your holiday was good and you have a happy New Year! hugs, hugs, hugs!!!

could have been me talking about the poison ivy, but its such a common thing where both of us live its hard to say, probably both of us :) I'm glad there isn't any here, not a fun thing to go through.

You and Andy were so lucky. I would have loved to have gone on a walk, but I had to get back from Liz's house in Yorkshire, to Glasgow where we are performing for three weeks. The drive up was good though...lovely sunshine.

Thanks for taking me on your walk..your photos are great and the one with you hugging the tree has me smiling :)

Here's to a Happy New Year!

Hi Henry, Glasgow, glad the drive up was good! I think you are moving a little closer to home though soon, are you doing Malvern? I seem to recall seeing something somewhere! Good to see you, all the best to you for a Happy New Year too :)
