I always say that inspiration comes from many sources. I agreed to send some cards across the miles, "just because". Unusually I had a lot of men take me up on this offer which I can honestly say I found quite surprising. I never think of guys appreciating a card in the post as much as females, so it just shows how much I had inadvertantly stereotyped. Far more males took part in this than females. Anyway I digress............one of the guys told me that he liked wolves and I couldn't find a decent picture that wasn't subject to copyright. So I am painting one!
So that I can also use it for Christmas cards, I decided to give it an icy background. As Tina was interested in the effect when I was talking about it the other day, here is a close up so you can see it more clearly.
The paper does need to be quite wet and you simply add rock salt to your paint mix. As Teen says, it would also make an interesting backing to a card.
Happy Saturday :D

It's a beauty Chrissy. :)
Gorgeous painting, beautiful wolf. Nice to see the flow of your brushwork in the close-up.
this is just stunning!
i love the back ground and the wolf is amazing! xoxox
the wolf looks good :D I always end up putting too much salt on the paper when I do that, which spoils the effect, and a waste of salt cause you can't cook with it then :p the background does look very icey
wow its amazing hun, huggs jo x
Wow... I am speechless. Thanks for taking the time and putting so much love behind your craft.
Rock salt--interesting! I like the watercolory wolf. Some artists seem to painstakingly lay in each & every hair. I can't fathom how they do that & I certainly wouldn't have the patience, myself, to try.
Thank you all for great feedback :D
John I do think that practice is the key, believe me you do get better the more you do.
mrwolf, thanks for the inspiration :D
Lana, the fur is yet to come ;)
Oh and Jen I forgot to say, I agree the rock salt really isn't much good for cooking with afterwards, ROFL. I used too much on the last one I did ;)
You inspire me so much that i had to draw my own wolf
However i could never paint like you! I sketch i do a lot of pencil work but i could never paint! It looks so complicated! You are truly talented
I hope you post up more of your work i personally think it is incredible and i'm sure everyone does!
I cannot stress enough how beautiful this is!
Keep painting,
Marie
